Exploring Human Relationships with Environment - Exhibition 2018

The goal of this body of work is to explore Human Interactions with Environment on a psychological level. Through a curated combination of pieces, this abstract interaction and concept are defined through visuals that include a selection of mediums, highlighting digital landscape photography, and including more physically rugged works.

When one views natural environments, a progression of thought takes place. First, one is in awe, and imagination often becomes the reasoning for how something can occur. This is exemplified by the largest piece, The Old Man’s Thumb. Then one moves on to perceiving the natural scene in more detail, be it through feeling a specific mood (Northern Forest Light), or feeling an impression of time and movement (Moving Chasms). After this transition, the process is concluded when environments are operationally interacted with - often exploitatively (Timber Vistas), (Mountain Tread). This psychological process has supported the historical development of society and been instrumental for the construction and conservation of environments and how they are perceived (Pantheon Rusticus).

Through raising awareness of the mental process through which natural environments are perceived, I hope to initiate reflection and action in audiences in regard to environmental conservation.
